GAC recognised twice as Sri Lanka celebrates excellence in business

GAC Shipping Ltd Sri Lanka was among those recognised at the 14th National Business Excellence Awards, organised by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka.

The company was named Runner-Up in the “Shipping & Shipping related Services Sector” and, for the first time, it also featured (as Second Runner-Up) in the overall “Medium Sized Companies” category, which is open to all industries.

The Awards were presented at a ceremony at the Colombo Hilton hotel, attended by top business leaders, leading business organisations, diplomatic missions, including the High Commissioner of Canada, David McKinnon as Chief Guest.

“It's s a fantastic achievement by the GAC team with everyone contributing to this success,” says Ashan Welagedara, GAC Shipping Limited's Senior General Manager.

“It was a proud moment for all of us, receiving both an award in the overall medium-sized companies category for the very first time and continuing to be amongst the winners in the shipping category.”

Best overall

More award success came when the company beat more than 30 companies to win the Managing Director's Award for the Overall Best Performing Company 2016/2017 at the McLarens Holdings MD's Award 2017. The awards are staged every year by McLarens Holdings Limited (GAC's partner in Sri Lanka) to acknowledge exceptional performance of companies and individuals over the past year.

Individual awards were also presented to: Bongso Basheer - Most Outstanding Sales Person of the Year (Managerial Category); Felicita Alwis – Most Outstanding Operations Person of the Year (Executive Category); Nishantha Hitibandara – Most Outstanding Finance Person of the Year (Executive Category); Naizer Sulaiman – Most Outstanding Non Executive Employee; and Saman Kumara – Most Outstanding Vessel Officer.
