GAC Abu Dhabi has completed the preparation, construction and relocation of a logistics base to support the operations of global drilling services provider Paragon Offshore.
The handling of the entire project was entrusted to GAC, covering: designing the plot and layout of the base; obtaining approvals to develop a storage facility; arranging renovation works; and relocating all cargo from Paragon Offshore’s old site to the new facility. The base provides support to two of Paragon Offshore’s jack-up rigs.
Situated at Mina Zayed port, known for its safety and accessibility, the base has an open yard of 3,717m2, 930m2 of warehouse space, facilities tailored to the needs of the oil & gas sector, and a team of GAC Abu Dhabi staff on-site. The yard is divided into areas dedicated to drill pipes and collars, general cargo, BlowOut Preventer parts, open top containers and heavy machinery.
GAC’s in-house Warehouse Management System (WMS), GACWare, has also been incorporated into the operations to ensure supply chain transparency, accurate stock records and inventory control.
The movement of cargo from Paragon Offshore’s old logistics base at Mussafah, 60km away from its new location, took meticulous planning and execution. GAC Abu Dhabi activated more than 100 trailers for the transfer of cargo alone. Over-sized cargo needed special lifting and police escorts for loads moved at night.
Paragon Offshore’s Materials Manager – Supply Chain, Mark Basil, says: “We commend the GAC team for their support and teamwork throughout the project. We are pleased to have them working with Paragon Offshore to support our oil and gas operations in Abu Dhabi.”
With operations at the base in full swing, the GAC team is providing support including receipt of all local supplies and back-loads from the rigs and arranging load-outs back to the rigs. They also take care of transportation, MHE (Material Handling Equipment) and archiving of documents.
